MUSCATINE, Iowa – South Houser Street will be closed for two weeks just south of the intersection with Musser Street as crews replace a 48-inch culvert that runs underneath the street. The culvert has been deteriorating and caused a portion of the street to collapse forcing city crews to block off a portion of South Houser Street.
The timing of the work is dependent on the weather.
The current plan is to close South Houser Street on Monday, April 26, to begin excavating and removing the collapsed culvert. The new culvert is expected to arrive on Tuesday, April 30, with paving of the area anticipated to begin on Monday, May 6, weather permitting.
Drivers travelling south on South Houser Street will be detoured to Musser Street and then to Grandview Avenue. Drivers wanting to go north on South Houser from Grandview will have to turn onto Musser Street to reach South Houser Street. Local traffic only will be allowed on South Houser Street from Grandview Avenue to the construction site just south of Musser Street.
