[ARCHIVED] Full Depth Patching program to be discussed on April 11

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Six sections of four streets in Muscatine will be recommended for the Full-Depth Patching Program during the 2019-2020 Fiscal Year. The Department of Public Works for the City of Muscatine will present the full list to the Muscatine City Council at the April 11 In-Depth meeting.

The proposal will also include sections of 11 alleys for asphalt overlay. This is the second year of the alley asphalt overlay program with a new asphalt surface laid down on sections of nine alleys in 2018.

Full-Depth Patching is a program to repair sections of Muscatine streets that have become too large for cold mix or hot mix asphalt repairs by cutting out and replacing large sections of the concrete pavement.

Seven streets had sections replaced under the 2018 Full Depth Patching Program including Fulliam Avenue, Stewart Road, Houser Street, Park Avenue West, Division Street, Logan Street, and 2nd Avenue. Half of the scheduled work was completed before the winter hiatus with Park Avenue West, Houser Street, and 2nd Avenue work underway again by All-American Concrete.

The 2019-2020 schedule will again focus on sections of Fulliam Avenue and Houser Street along with sections of Lake Park Boulevard and University Drive. The proposed contract will repair sections of Fulliam Avenue from Kindler to Devitt and from Houser to Green Acres, sections of Houser from Musser to Grandview, sections of Lake Park from 2nd Avenue to Park Avenue, and sections of University Drive from Highway 61 to Highway 22.

The final section to be repaired is the Houser Hill area from Hershey to Lucas. That section will not only see concrete replacement but also tile work to help alleviate the problem of the springs flowing out onto the street.

Anyone interested in commenting on or asking questions about the 2019-2010 proposal are urged to attend the Muscatine City Council meeting in the City Council Chambers of Muscatine City Hall, 215 Sycamore. That meeting begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 11. You can also view the meeting and comment on Youtube. A comment link is also available during the meeting on Facebook. The meeting is also shown live on MPW Channel 2.
