[ARCHIVED] Building a bridge - Muscatine featured in magazine

Big River Magainze

MUSCATINE, Iowa – The connection between Muscatine and China was explored in an article written by Emery Styron in the January/February 2019 issue of Big River Magazine (http://bigrivermagazine.com/index.html)

Styron, a native of Riverside, Iowa, takes a look at the connection that began over 30 years ago when Xi Jinping of China first travelled to Muscatine and began a relationship with Roger and Sarah Lande, a story documented in Sarah Lande’s book Old Friends.

Xi Jinping is now president of China and last visited Muscatine when he was vice-president in 2012.

Muscatine’s relationship with China goes deeper than just the connection with Xi Jinping as Styron also writes about the many personal and business relationships with China that occur today and are planned for the future.

The magazine, which highlights life along the upper Mississippi River, is available for purchase online or at select retailers.

Lande’s book is also available for purchase. Visit https://www.xijinpingiowamemoir.com/ for details.
