[ARCHIVED] Snow melts away, leaf pickup program resumes in Muscatine

Leaf Collection 112917a

MUSCATINE, Iowa – The snow has melted away and the City of Muscatine will resume the Leaf Pickup program at least for the next two weeks.

Brian Stineman, Department of Public Works director, said that the city will use two trucks over the course of the next two weeks as long as weather permits. The program was suspended for the Thanksgiving holiday and the winter storm that followed as crews were finishing Zone 6.

City crews will work in Zone 7 and Zone 8 (northeast quadrant of Muscatine) before making a final pass through the zones.

Residents who have piles of leaves can call the Department of Public Works at (563) 263-8933 to be put on the list for possible pickup. An alternate option would be for residents to bag the leaves themselves and transport them to the Compost Site at the Recycling Center and Transfer Station on Houser Street.

COMPOST SITE OPEN TWO MORE WEEKS

The compost site at the City of Muscatine Recycling Center and Transfer Station will operate on a limited schedule for the next two weeks before officially closing for the season on December 16, 2018.

The compost site gates will be open on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with the site unattended. Anyone wishing to obtain firewood during these hours or in need of further assistance should check in first with the scale attendant at the Transfer Station.

The final day of the season for the compost site will be on Saturday, Dec. 15, with the site open and attended from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A decision will be made later this week whether to open the site on Saturday, December 8.

For further assistance, contact the Recycling Center and Transfer Station at 563-263-9689.
