[ARCHIVED] Muscatine Walking Club begins journey to North Pole

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Members of the Muscatine Walking Club have walked the perimeter of the United States and that includes Alaska and Hawaii. With over 975 participants, the club has walked a total of 12,664 miles surpassing their goal of 12,383 miles.

So what is next for this growing club of walkers?

With just six weeks until the most wonderful time of the year, the Muscatine Walking Club has started their journey to the North Pole. Minutes recorded at the Walking Club kiosk located in the Center Court of Muscatine Mall will be calculated toward the 3,319-mile goal to reach the North Pole in time for Christmas.

The Walking Club is a free program sponsored by the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department that allows members to walk anywhere they like, inside, outside, or on a treadmill, and record their minutes at the Walking Club kiosk for a chance to win weekly incentive prizes and checkpoint prizes.

Want to be a part of the competition for our weekly incentive prizes for walking each week?  It is easy.  Just register for the Walking Club by contacting the Parks and Recreation Department at 263-0241 or by email at parksoffice@muscatineiowa.gov.  Then simply begin walking and recording your minutes at the Walking Club kiosk.
