MUSCATINE, Iowa – A single family home at 2219 Hershey Avenue suffered approximately $35,000 in damage as the result of a fire late Thursday (May 3) afternoon.
The Muscatine Joint Communications Center (MUSCOM) received a 911 call at approximately 3:58 p.m. of a single family house on fire. Fire crews found a heavy smoke coming from the second floor upon arrival. Police units who were on scene stated the second floor was fully involved.
Crews initiated a fire attack and ‘knocked down’ the main body of fire within a few minutes. The fire was under control by 4:10 p.m. but the fire had already caused damage to the second story of the structure. Once the main body of fire was extinguished crews worked to find any hidden fire and clear the building of smoke.
The fire department remained on the scene and investigators were working to determine the area of origin and the cause. The American Red Cross was called to assist two adults and one child who were displaced by the fire. The house suffered smoke damage throughout and some structural damage on the second floor.
There were no injuries to responders or bystanders. The fire department also responded an emergency interfacility transfer while working to contain and control this fire.
The Muscatine Fire Department was assisted by the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Department and the Muscatine Police Department. Approximately 25 fire fighters responded to the fire, including some off duty personnel.
