[ARCHIVED] Recycling collection unfinished Thursday

Recycling Collection Delayed (JPG)

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Curbside recycling collection was not completed by Republic Services Thursday (Jan. 18) with Cedar Street, Houser Street (even side), Clarabeck and West Bay, Harmony Lane, Fulliam to Logan, and the dead ends and cul de sacs uncollected. The recycling collection will be completed Friday along with the regular Friday collection.

If your recycling was not collected today, please leave your container curbside for collection Friday morning. Remember to place containers at the end of your driveway or clear an area in the boulevard for the container to sit as snow plows will be out working to remove the forecasted snow Thursday and Friday.

Republic Services was able to complete the Wednesday curbside recycling route before starting the Thursday route. The remainder of the Thursday route will be collected prior to Republic Services beginning the Friday route collection.

Weather played a factor in curbside recycling collection in January with the “A” week routes for the week of January 8 already delayed day due to the first snowstorm that moved through Muscatine. Curbside collection for the January 11 and January 12 “A” routes were cancelled due to the extreme cold and heavy snow.

Republic Services has indicated that the January 11 recycling will be collected on January 25 (the next “A” route collection day) and the January 12 recycling will be collected on January 26 (the next “A” route collection day. Republic has indicated that they are allowing customers on those two routes to place their overflow recycling material into plastic bags and set them next to the recycling bin for collection.

Residents with concerns with the delay in this service should call Republic Services customer service at 563-332-0050.

Refuse & Recycling Container Winter Placement Do’s and Don’ts

  • During or after a snow event, place containers in the driveway and not in the street. Containers left in the street could potentially be damaged by a snowplow and/or require snowplow drivers to park and leave their vehicles to move containers from their path.
  • Carts can also be placed on a cleared area of your boulevard, or after your street has been plowed, place it in the gutter right next to your driveway.
  • Do not leave your cart on the sidewalk or on top of a snow bank.
  • Improperly placed carts will not be collected.
  • Alley placement: Carts must be placed at the alley edge. Carts on private property or by the garage will not be collected.
