MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine City Council will consider awarding contracts for two infrastructure projects during its Thursday (April 1, 2021) regular session.
The Muscatine City Council will meet in person in the Council Chambers at Muscatine City Hall for their first regular monthly meeting starting at 7 p.m. Thursday. Only certain staff members will be allowed to attend the meeting in person with the Council members.
In-person public access to the meeting will not be permitted. Those wanting to watch or participate in the meeting can attend through the virtual GoToMeeting portal. Information on joining the session and how to make a comment during the meeting is listed below. The session will also be broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel and on Muscatine Power & Water Cable Channel 2.
Phase V of the West Hill Sanitary and Storm Sewer Separation Project (WSSSSP) will be completed over two years and will separate the combined sewer on West 8th Street from Broadway to Lucas, Climer Street from West 8th Street to Lucas, and two sections of Lucas Street.
Bids were received on March 9, 2021, with Hagerty Earthworks of Muscatine was the apparent low bidder at $6.03 million, which was below the engineers’ estimate of $8.17 million. After a review of the submitted bids by Stanley Consultants, City staff recommended the awarding of the contract to Hagerty Earthworks.
The Grandview Avenue Reconstruction Project is an extension of the Mississippi Drive Corridor Project and will remove and replace the pavement from Main Street to approximately 200 yards south of the intersection with Houser Street. New sidewalks and landscaping will also be part of the project that will be completed over the next two years.
Bids were received by the Iowa Department of Transportation on March 16, 2021, with Heuer Construction, Inc., of Muscatine, the apparent low bidder at $7.74 million, which was below the engineers’ estimate of $10.11 million. After a review of the bids submitted by the Iowa Department of Transportation, City staff recommended awarding the contract to Heuer Construction, Inc.
Schedule details on both projects will be released following a pre-construction meeting that will be held after the Council approves the contracts and bonds later this month.
