MUSCATINE, Iowa – East 2nd Street will be closed to traffic from the Mulberry roundabout to Walnut Street for a sanitary sewer replacement. The closure will begin on Monday, March 29, with work completed by May 17, weather permitting.
Access to businesses in the 400 block of East 2nd Street and to the Musser Public Library and HNI Community Center will be maintained. The library parking lot will be accessible from Walnut Street and from Mulberry Avenue.
With the 2nd Street leg of the roundabout closed traffic will be detoured to either Mississippi Drive or to 3rd Street.
KE Flatwork, Inc., will begin the removal and replacement of a sanitary sewer manhole along with associated sanitary sewer pipe on Monday in the 400 block of East 2nd Street. This is a continuation of the removal and replacement of the sanitary sewer from the Mulberry intersection that began with the roundabout project.
Meanwhile, the intersection of Sycamore and East 2nd Street remains closed to traffic as work continues to rebuild the intersection as part of the 2nd Street Streetscape Project. Access to businesses in the 200 block of East 2nd Street is available from the Cedar Street intersection while access to the businesses in the 100 block of east 2nd Street is available from the Iowa Avenue intersection.
