MUSCATINE, Iowa – The final Muscatine City Council meeting of February will be a busy one with five public hearings scheduled as part of a full agenda of action items for the Thursday (Feb. 18, 2021) regular session.

Three of the public hearings concern development agreements for three housing projects that are scheduled to begin construction in Muscatine in the near future. Another public hearing will be held on the plans and specifications for the upcoming Phase 5 of the West Hill Sanitary and Storm Sewer Separation Project. The fifth public hearing will seek public comment on declaring certain city owned real estate as surplus.

The Muscatine City Council will meet virtually for their regular session starting at 7 p.m. Thursday. Information on joining the session and how to make a comment during the meeting is listed below.

The session will also be broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel and on Muscatine Power & Water Cable Channel 2.

Also on the agenda is the first reading of an ordinance that will amend City Code to align with state code in regards to persons violating the disorderly conduct code, and the third reading of an ordinance establishing a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District for the Colorado Lofts Project and Steamboat Apartment development.

Now that the budget review session has been completed, the Council will be asked to set the date for a Public Hearing on the Maximum Tax Levy for the Fiscal Year 2021/2022 budget. This is one of two public hearings that must be held before the budget can be approved and filed with the Muscatine County Auditor. The Maximum Tax Levey public hearing is tentatively scheduled for the March 4 Council meeting.
