MUSCATINE, Iowa – Registration is underway for a variety of baseball and softball programs that will be offered through the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department. BlastBall is a fun and exciting version of tee-ball for boys and girls who are three- to six-years old. A Softball Skills Clinic is planned for girls in grades 1-6 while a Baseball Fundamentals program is scheduled for boys in grades 1-6 this February.

Youth ages three-six will enjoy learning to throw, catch and bat with the help of their parents and qualified instructors. Program equipment is specifically designed for this younger age group and is provided for all participants. BlastBall will be held on Saturday mornings in the Central Middle School gym from February 20 through March 13. Three- and four-year-olds will play from 10:30-11:15 a.m. while five- and six-year-olds will practice from 11:30-12:15 p.m. Parental assistance is encouraged during this program.

The Softball Skills Clinic is perfect for girls who are new to the game or for those who would like to brush up on their skills after a long winter. Participants will learn the basics of batting, fielding and throwing during the four-week program held on Sundays from February 21 through March 14 in the Central Middle School Gym. Girls in grades 1-2 will practice from 4:00-5:00 p.m., grades 3-4 will play from 5:00-6:00 p.m. and the program for grades 5-6 will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Boys in grades 1-6 will have the opportunity to practice the basics and improve their skills prior to the spring season during the Baseball Fundamentals program. Trained staff will lead this instructional program on Sundays from February 21 through March 14 in the Central Middle School Gym. Participants will need to bring a glove and bat to each class session. First and second graders will play from 1:00-2:00 p.m., third and fourth graders will practice from 2:00-3:00 p.m., and the fifth and sixth grade program will be held from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Registration is underway with a $25.00 fee for Muscatine residents and a $30.00 fee for non-residents. All participants will receive a t-shirt included with the entry fee. Participants may register over the phone by contacting the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department at (563) 263-0241 or by going online.
