MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine City Council will conduct two public hearings as they work through a rather light agenda for the first regular meeting of February on Thursday (Feb. 4, 2021).

Council members continue to hold budget review sessions with City staff including Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. session with outside agencies including the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GMCCI), Senior Resources, Vision 20/20, the Humane Society, and the Muscatine Center for Social Action (MCSA).

The Council was scheduled to have a budget review session tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 3) but that session has been cancelled and the topics moved to the Saturday (Feb. 6) session. Those topics feature the divisions of the Department of Public Works but will start with an interaction between the Council members and local Iowa legislators. The Saturday session starts at 8 a.m. with links to the virtual sessions available at by clicking BUDGET REVIEW SESSION SCHEDULE. The session will also be broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel.

The Muscatine City Council will meet virtually for their regular session starting at 7 p.m. Thursday. Information on joining the session and how to make a comment during the meeting is listed below.

The session will also be broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel and will also be shown live on Muscatine Power & Water Cable Channel 2.

The first public hearing Thursday will be on a proposed amendment to the Consolidated Muscatine Urban Renewal Plan. The City periodically amends the Urban Renewal Plan to allow for future tax increment (TIF) funding to be used for new Economic Development Agreements, new projects or programs, or to continue existing projects or programs. A resolution to approve the amendment will be voted on later in the meeting.

The second public hearing will discuss the potential disposition of excess parcels of land that are not needed by the City of Muscatine. A series of resolutions to approve the sale of these five parcels will be conducted later in the meeting.
