[ARCHIVED] Rare photography opportunity at Muscatine Art Center

library backdrop (JPG)

MUSCATINE, Iowa - The holidays are fast approaching and even though the Muscatine Art Center cannot celebrate as they normally would with big events such as Sunday with Santa or Kids Pajama Party, the Art Center can still share some holiday cheer with their guests.

The historic Musser-McColm mansion is now decorated and adorned for Christmas, something that our guests look forward to every year, and ready for visitors.

In lieu of a big event this year, the Muscatine Art Center is offering families the opportunity to take their family photographs in the library of the historic mansion with the fully-decorated front parlor as a beautiful backdrop. However, you must call the Muscatine Art Center to schedule an appointment for this one-of-a-kind photographic opportunity that is not open to professional photographers.

For 10 days in December families can come, enjoy, and utilize the space for family photographs. While at the Art Center, families can pick up a holiday “Take & Make” bag that has several projects including a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Noon Year’s Eve party in a bag. Families can also enjoy holiday music from the Regina Orchestral Music Box, built in 1889, during their photo appointment.

Before leaving guests will need to make sure to view the exhibition “Till Death: Wedding & Mourning Traditions”, on display in the Stanley Gallery thru January 12, 2021, and the other exhibits currently on exhibit at the Muscatine Art Center.

Appointments are necessary in order to minimize the number of families in the facility. Reservations can be made on the top of the hour and on the half hour during our open hours on the days listed below. Admission is free, and group size is limited to six people. Masks are required in the building but not sitting for photographs. Please remember to bring your own camera.

To make a reservation, please call us at 563-263-8282, but hurry because available time slots will fill up fast.

Dates to reserve times:

  • December   8-11: 10:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • December 15-18: 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
