MUSCATINE, Iowa – The 2020 construction season for the 2nd Street Streetscape Project is wrapping up with East 2nd Street scheduled to be reopened to all traffic Saturday afternoon according to City of Muscatine project managers.

KE Flatwork, Inc., and Eastern Iowa Landscaping have finished repairs to the brick crosswalk on the east side of the 2nd Street and Cedar intersection with plans to reopen that portion of the intersection Friday (Sept. 18, 2020) afternoon.

A little more work needs to be finished in the 200 block of East 2nd Street including sealing of the joints, installation of the light fixtures, and stripping of the pavement before all traffic and parking are resumed in that block.

KE Flatwork plans to close the north and south sections of the Cedar and 2nd Street intersection to repair those brick crosswalks staring on Monday. The contractor indicates that all work should be completed and the intersection reopened by Sept. 25 depending on the weather.

All work on the 2nd Street Streetscape Project will wrap up for the 2020 construction season on October 2 to allow Downtown Muscatine merchants and their customer’s unrestricted access through the holiday season. Construction activity is tentatively scheduled to resume in March 2021.

All dates are tentative and dependent on weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

Drivers are urged to use caution when proceeding in or around construction areas and to find alternate routes of travel when possible.
