MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine City Council will be back in the Council Chambers at Muscatine City Hall tonight for their September 17 regular meeting, but public participation will still be through the virtual meeting session that will also be running.

The Muscatine City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 17, for a hybrid session that will also include a virtual meeting to allow the public to participate. The session in Council Chambers will also be broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel and will be shown live on Muscatine Power & Water Cable Channel 2.

Details on attending the virtual meeting are listed below.

The Muscatine City Council has not met in Chambers since the COVID-19 health crisis began back in March.

“The best way for the public to participate is to dial in to the GoToMeeting session, mute your device, watch the session on YouTube or Cable Channel 2, and, at the appropriate time, unmute your device to ask a question or make a comment,” Kevin Jenison, Communication Manager for the City of Muscatine, said.

City and Muscatine Community College staff have been working the past month to resolve audio problems associated with a hybrid meeting.

“We are confident that we have those issues resolved and ready to have Council back in Chambers,” Jenison said. “Watching on YouTube or on cable will probably be the best way to view the proceedings, but also have the virtual session running and muted if you are wanting to ask a question or make a comment.”

Only the Council members, Mayor, City Administrator, and staff who have items on the agenda will be in Council Chambers for the meeting Thursday.

“We have the Council Chambers set up to allow for social distancing between the members, and the arrangement has worked well with several other meetings that have been held in Council Chambers recently,” Jenison said.

The City has an ongoing process to re-evaluate the status of public attendance in Council Chambers.

“We hope to be back to normal sessions sooner rather than later,” Jenison said.

Among the items on the agenda for Thursday night is a resolution to accept the final plat of Arbor Commons, Muscatine’s newest subdivision.
