MUSCATINE, Iowa – The potential for exposure to the COVID-19 virus will keep the Aquatic Center in Muscatines’ Weed Park closed for the 2020 season according to Kelsey Stafford, Program Supervisor for the City of Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department.
With an average of 40,000 visitors to the facility during a season, the potential for exposure is high for both staff and patrons. Even with increased sanitizing methods and social distancing, significant potential for exposure remains in lifesaving situations and in high-touch areas.
The safety of patrons and staff is in the forefront of all decisions relating to outdoor activities during this health crisis, and the decision to keep the Aquatic Center closed was made with the well-being of the community in mind.
The Parks and Recreation Department will continue to monitor developments from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Iowa Department of Public Health, and the Governor of Iowa to safeguard our community and staff members.
