MUSCATINE, Iowa – Heuer Construction, the prime contractor for the 2nd and Mulberry Roundabout Project, plans to close the intersection at Mulberry and 3rd Street starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, as work begins to install a new storm sewer.
Heuer Construction has completed work on the new sanitary sewer from the #1 Alley up to 3rd Street. Traffic through the Mulberry and 3rd Street intersection was reduced to one lane this week while work on the sanitary sewer was completed.
Once work in the Mulberry and 3rd Street intersection has been completed, the contractor anticipates temporarily reopening the intersection after the placement of millings. However, the exact timeline for the work is weather dependent.
Drivers are urged to find alternate routes of travel while the work continues. Please use caution when driving in or around construction areas and be alert to traffic control devices.
The main detour for the roundabout project is using 5th Street to either Iowa Avenue or Park Avenue. Access to businesses affected by the construction is being maintained.
Work on installing the electrical duct bank in the southeast corner of the 2nd and Mulberry intersection has also been completed with the remaining underground work of installing the storm sewer and water main replacement beginning later this week.
