[ARCHIVED] The Great Candy Hunt set for Friday in Riverside Park

Candy Cane Hunt Promo (JPG)

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Santa Claus and his elves will be scurrying about inside Riverside Park Friday (Dec. 6) hiding thousands of candy canes for the annual Candy Cane Hunt sponsored by the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department.

The hunt will begin at 6 p.m. in the green space just downriver from Pearl City Station. Children will be able to gather and keep the sweet treats, and will receive a prize for each candy cane found. “Special” candy canes will also be sprinkled around that can be redeemed inside Pearl City Station for a special prize.

The weather should be delightful and the community is invited to come to the riverfront and join in on the fun as the dancing lights from children’s flashlights add a magical atmosphere to the candy cane hunt.

Areas will be set up in the green space near the basketball courts for girls and boys in two age groups including pre-kindergarten through first grade and second through fourth grade.

The Candy Cane Hunt is held in the dark, so parents are encouraged to bring a flashlight for their children to use. LED flashlights will be available from event sponsors for those who do not have one. Participants are also encouraged to bring a bag to hold their candy canes and prizes.

For more information, contact the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department at (563) 263-0241.

Once the hunt has been completed, do not forget to visit Downtown Muscatine where the 35th Annual Holiday Stroll takes place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. There will be plenty of food, fun, merchant specials, and music throughout the downtown area. You can continue this festive first weekend of December by attending “Christmas with the Symphony” performed by the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Central Middle School Auditorium. Admission is free with the donation of a toy, diapers, or canned goods.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE

ELVES WORKSHOP AT THE MUSCATINE MALL

The North Pole is a bee hive of activity at this time of year but Santa Claus will take a brief break from his Christmas Eve delivery preparations to attend the annual Elves Workshop sponsored by the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department. The event will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, in Center Court of the Muscatine Mall.

Santa will be on hand to visit with children of all ages who will become an “official” elf for the day. Children will be able to visit Santa’s Muscatine workshop to decorate crafts, make their very own holiday cards, participate in reindeer games, and even visit with the jolly ol’ elf himself.

There will be plenty of fun and games when the Muscatine Mall Center Court transforms into the North Pole. The Elves Workshop is a FREE activity for children and families with no pre-registration required.
