MUSCATINE, Iowa – The 1500 block of Washington Street will be closed to traffic from Park Avenue to Union Street starting Monday, November 25, and continuing through Tuesday, December 3. The street closure is needed to repair a collapsed sewer line and was approved by the Muscatine City Council Thursday (Nov. 21).
Hometown Plumbing & Heating has been contracted by the home owner to repair the line which is located in the first lane of traffic from the house with the sewer main three-quarters of the way across the street. The location of the sewer main necessitates the closure of the street.
Both directions of Washington Street (Highway 22) traffic will be detoured using University and Colorado in both directions. Traffic control and detour signs will be in place to direct traffic. Drivers are urged to use caution when driving through or around construction areas and to find alternate travel routes if possible.
