MUSCATINE, Iowa – The City of Muscatine will host a public informational meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, concerning the upcoming construction schedule for the Westside Trail project. The meeting will be held at Crossroads, Inc., 1414 Houser Street, Muscatine.

City staff will be on hand to provide a brief overview of the project and answer any questions.

Construction for the $1.2 million West Side Trail Project was awarded to Heuer Construction at the September 3, 2019, Muscatine City Council meeting.

The 1.75 mile West Side Trail will connect the trail head at Kent Stein Park with the Discovery Park trail and running mostly on the west side of Houser Street. Part of the new trail was created during the construction of the Houser Street Athletic and Parking Expansion Project. The upcoming construction will complete 1.26 miles of graded and paved pedestrian and bike trail that will link existing trails to form a continuous trail network of over 15 miles connecting all of the major recreational amenities in the Muscatine area.

The West Side Trail Project was one of four projects included in the Pearls of Progress project that received a $500,000 Community Attraction and Tourism grant from the State of Iowa in 2018. Renovations to the former HNI Corporate Headquarters, now the Musser Public Library and HNI Community Center, the Muscatine Dog Park, and the construction of four cabins at Deep Lakes Park were also included in the Pearls of Progress project.
