[ARCHIVED] City offices closed New Year’s Day; collection schedules changed

2026 New Years Closure (JPG)

MUSCATINE, Iowa City of Muscatine offices will be closed on Thursday (Jan. 1, 2026) in observance of the New Year’s holiday. All offices will reopen for regular hours on Friday (Jan. 2, 2026).

Muscatine Transfer Station

The Muscatine Transfer Station will be closed on New Year’s Day and will reopen on Friday.

Regular hours of operation are:

  • Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (last load on the scale at 3:15 p.m.)
  • Saturday 8 a.m.-12 p.m. (last load on the scale at 11:45 a.m.)

There will be no bulky waste or yard waste collections from Thursday through Friday, Jan. 1-2.

  • To schedule bulky waste collection, visit the CURBSIDE BULK COLLECTION page or call 563-264-5865. 
  • Bagged yard waste can be placed curbside on resident’s refuse collection day for pickup by the City. See YARD WASTE COLLECTION for more details.

Refuse Collection

  • There will be NO refuse collection on January 1.
  • Thursday’s route (Jan. 1) will be collected on Friday, Jan. 2, along with the regular Friday route. 

Recycling Collection

  • There will be NO curbside recycling collection on January 1. 
  • Thursday’s route will be collected Friday and Friday’s route collected on Saturday.

Compost Facility

The Compost Facility is closed for the season. For more information about the facility, visit COMPOST SITE on the City of Muscatine website.

MuscaBus (Public Transit)

Muscatine Transit (MuscaBus) will not operate on January 1. Regular service will resume Friday (Jan. 2).

Musser Public Library and HNI Community Center

The Musser Public Library and HNI Community Center will be closed on January 1, reopening on Friday, Jan. 2. 

Normal library hours are:

  • Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m-2 p.m.
  • Sunday 12-4 p.m.

Muscatine Art Center

The Muscatine Art Center will close at 2 p.m. on December 31 and be closed all day on January 1, reopening on Friday, Jan. 2.

Normal hours are:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Thursday 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday 1-5 p.m.)
  • Closed Mondays.

Public Safety and Public Works

The Muscatine Fire Department and Muscatine Police Department will remain staffed during the holiday. Public Works staff will be on-call.

  • Public Works at 563-263-8933. 

In the case of an emergency, call 911.

Muscatine Municipal Golf Course

The Muscatine Municipal Golf Course is closed for the season. The Clubhouse and Pro Shop will be closed on January 1. 

Winter hours for the Clubhouse and Pro Shop are:

  • Monday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Thursday-Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Saturday 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday.

City Parks

All City of Muscatine parks, including the Muscatine Dog Park, Muscatine Pollinator Park, and the Muscatine Trail System, will remain open, weather permitting. Residents are encouraged to use caution while enjoying outdoor amenities.
