MUSCATINE, Iowa – The City of Muscatine has announced that the Compost Facility will remain closed this week due to the cold weather.
“With temperatures staying below freezing, we will see little to no snow melt this week and that will probably not allow anyone to do yard work,” said David Popp, Solid Waste Manager.
The City will reassess the Compost Facility schedule on Monday (Dec. 8) to determine if it can open for any remaining days of the season. The facility was originally scheduled to close for winter on December 15.
Curbside Yard Waste Collection Will Continue
Residents can place yard waste in paper compostable bags with a City yard waste sticker for curbside pickup on their regular refuse collection day. Collection is available year-round except on holidays.
“We will continue curbside yard waste collections if anyone is needing to use this service,” Popp said.
To use this service, please follow these guidelines:
- Only grass clippings, leaves, and garden waste will be picked up.
- Yard waste must be in 20- or 30-gallon paper bags with a City yard waste sticker.
- Do not overfill bags (max 50 lbs) and keep them dry.
- Stickers are for residential yard waste only.
- Place bags at the curb after 5 p.m. the day before collection but before 5 a.m. on collection day.
- City of Muscatine Yard Waste Stickers can be purchased at:
- Muscatine Transfer Station
- City Hall
- Public Works
- Hy-Vee (both locations)
- Fareway
