MUSCATINE, Iowa – Need to ditch old tires or electronics? Muscatine residents with city refuse service can drop them off for free at the Muscatine Transfer Station during two special weeks in July. The Muscatine City Council gave the green light to the dates during its April 17 meeting.
Here’s the breakdown:
- Tires: Drop off up to four (off the rim) for free from July 14–19.
- Electronics: Bring up to three items for free from July 21–26.
Residents must show proof of address (a driver’s license or government-issued ID listing Muscatine or Fruitland).
Landlords can participate too, but they must bring a signed lease agreement showing tenant occupancy and label items with tenants’ names. Landlords dropping off for multiple properties must book an appointment.
Last year, the program kept 758 tires and 632 electronics out of landfills, saving residents nearly $11,000 in disposal costs—covered by the City’s refuse budget.
Miss the free weeks? No problem. Tires and electronics are accepted year-round for a fee. (Check the Rate and Fee Schedule for details.)
