[ARCHIVED] Outdoor Weather Siren Testing rescheduled for Monday, June 23

Special Outdoor Warning Siren Test 101

MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine County Joint Communications Center (MUSCOM) has rescheduled the countywide outdoor weather siren testing and maintenance for Monday, June 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

The testing was originally planned for Tuesday, June 17 at 10:00 a.m., but was postponed due to the threat of severe weather.

“We’ve been experiencing some technical issues with certain sirens activating incorrectly since transitioning to a new system,” said Chris Jasper, Director of Emergency Management/911. “Our vendors will be on-site Monday to conduct further testing and implement necessary adjustments.”

An initial test activation will occur at 11:00 a.m., with additional siren activations likely throughout the morning as system settings are adjusted and verified.

“We may need to activate the sirens several times to ensure all units are functioning properly and that any changes have resolved the issue,” Jasper explained. “Any sirens heard Monday morning can be safely disregarded.”

Under normal conditions, Muscatine County tests outdoor weather sirens on the first Monday of each month at 11:00 a.m., excluding winter months. Routine tests are canceled if severe weather is forecast.

“If storms or hazardous weather are predicted for Monday, testing will again be postponed,” Jasper added.

Outdoor warning sirens are intended to alert people who are outside to seek shelter immediately and access additional emergency information.

Residents who believe a siren is malfunctioning or failed to sound can contact the Muscatine County Office of Emergency Management at 563-264-7142 or ema@muscatinecountyiowa.gov.
