MUSCATINE, Iowa – The City of Muscatine and the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department are moving forward with a renovation project for the Mississippi Mist Spray Pad, located in Riverside Park along the city’s scenic riverfront. The improvement plans recently received approval from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), paving the way for the next phase of the project.
The City is currently accepting quotes for the Mississippi Mist Spray Pad Improvement Project. Interested contractors are invited to submit proposals that include all costs related to the purchase, delivery, site preparation, and renovation of the spray pad, in alignment with the project’s engineered plans.

The smokestack-themed interactive fountain has remained closed since 2023 as the City developed and submitted renovation plans for DNR approval. Originally installed as part of the Pearls of the Mississippi II Project in the early 2000s, the Mississippi Mist and its neighboring landmark, the “Mississippi Harvest” sculpture, remain iconic features of Muscatine’s riverfront.
