MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine City Council will convene for a full agenda on Thursday (May 1) beginning at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of Muscatine City Hall. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.

A series of significant action items are on the agenda including the scheduling of four public hearings to be held during the May 17 City Council meeting, the reading of two proclamations, and entering into two closed sessions with the possibility of action being taken upon their conclusion.

The meeting will begin with two official proclamations from Mayor Brad Bark, recognizing May 11-17 as both National Police Week and Food Allergy Awareness Week.

The Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department is seeking City Council’s approval for the purchase and installation of three Kasco fountains, and the required electrical services, in the renovated Weed Park lagoons (two along the upper lagoon, and one along the lower lagoon). The fountains are part of the Lagoon Bank Stabilization Project, and are necessary to agitate the water, which will help reduce algae bloom.

The City Council is also expected to support a resolution approving the appointment of Mike Hartman as the Interim Fire Chief for the City of Muscatine by City Administrator Matt Mardesen, approve the contract and bond for Phase 6D of the West Hill Sanitary and Storm Sewer Separation Project with KE Flatwork, Inc., and award the contract for Phase 3 of the West Fulliam Avenue Reconstruction Project to Heuer Construction.

The meeting is open to all individuals, regardless of language spoken or disability. Persons requiring special accommodations to attend or participate should contact the City Clerk’s office at 563-264-1550 in advance of the meeting.

Those unable to attend in person can watch the meeting live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel or Civic-TV (Muscatine Power & Water Cable Channel 2).

A detailed agenda, along with related documents and attachments, is available on the City of Muscatine’s official website at www.muscatineiowa.gov. Navigate to the "AGENDA" section and select the May 1, 2025, City Council Agenda.
