City of Muscatine Housing Counseling Program
The City of Muscatine Housing Counseling program is a HUD Certified organization that provides a range of resources. These include group classes covering rental and homeownership education, as well as personalized sessions for credit repair, budgeting, and other financial assistance.
Homebuyer Education Class
The Homebuyer Education Class is designed to guide potential homebuyers through the entire home ownership process successfully. We offer a FREE 8-hour class held once a month on a Saturday. Topics covered in these classes include:
- Effective budget and financial management
- Understanding and evaluating credit
- Choosing the right home
- Negotiating the purchase price
- Loan pre-approval process
- Selecting a real estate agent
- Various types of available loans
- and more!
Rental Education Class
The Step Ahead Rental Class is tailored to assist Muscatine Municipal Housing Agency applicants in gaining a “Step Ahead” on the waitlist. This class covers tenant-landlord laws, the eviction process, and tips on becoming a responsible tenant.
One-on-One Sessions
For clients seeking more personalized assistance, one-on-one meetings can be scheduled to address topics like homelessness prevention, credit building/repair, budgeting, and other financial resources. We aim to provide support for essential financial life skills.
All classes and one-on-one sessions are free of charge. There are no income or location restrictions; everyone is welcome to take advantage of these services.
