MUSCATINE, Iowa – The scale office at the City of Muscatine Transfer Station will be closed to the public starting at 11 a.m., Monday, March 23, 2020, according to David Popp, Solid Waste Manager for the City of Muscatine. The scale office will continue to be staffed but access to the scales and tipping floor will be limited to commercial customers.
The public will not be able to use the scale and tipping floor at the Transfer Station until the scale office is reopened to the public.
“Curbside residential trash, recycling, and bulky waste collections will continue as normal at this time,” Poll said. “All of these efforts are an attempt to keep our facilities open at a minimum level and help protect our employees.”
Any resident needing to bring household hazardous waste, appliances, tires, or electronics to the Transfer Station and pay for the disposal with cash, check, or credit card will have to wait until the scale office reopens to the public.
Customers with a commercial charge account will still be able to use the facilities at the Transfer Station (scale and tipping floor), but will not be able to sign for the scale tickets. Commercial account tickets will be kept in the scale office and made available at a later date.
The Compost Facility will open for the season at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2020, but only for residents that have already obtained a vehicle sticker to use the facility. Compost Facility stickers are normally obtained at City Hall, the Transfer Station, and Public Works. However, City offices will be closed to the public starting at 8 a.m., Monday, March 23, 2020, and continuing through April 16, 2020.
The closures will be re-evaluated as the City works with other local, state, and federal departments during the CORVID-19 epidemic.
The City of Muscatine has instituted a series of policies in response to the COVID-19 outbreak In accordance with the State Public Health Emergency Declaration signed by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and with guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
