The Muscatine Police Department presently has an officer assigned to the Muscatine Community School District as a School Resource Officer (SRO). The officer works mainly out of the Muscatine High School building but also spends time at both West and Central Middle Schools.The position is largely funded through the school district however the officer is employed by the department.
In addition to his/her regular duty hours, the SRO routinely works school sporting and social events as a police department liaison as well as security for those students attending the event. During the summer months and extended vacations, when school isn't in session the SRO's will return to the patrol division as additional staffing.
