The procedures to register complaints against or commend the agency or its employees

The Muscatine Police Department is an accredited law enforcement agency recognized by the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) since 2000. ln accordance with CALEA Standards (Standard #26.2.4: Sixth Edition), the department is required to publicly present the procedures to register complaints or commend agency personnel. 

The Procedures are as follows: 

COMPLAINTS 

A person wanting to make a complaint regarding the conduct of Muscatine Police Department personnel must make contact with a department supervisor either in person, via telephone, or in writing and report the particulars of the event (complaints may be anonymous). All received complaints will be investigated by supervision of the Muscatine Police Department. Dispositions of complaints will be determined by established policy/procedure. Per Calea Standard 45.2.3, any person may also utilize the Accreditation Public Comment Portal to provide commendations or concerns related to the Muscatine Police Department and its CALEA accredited status.

COMMENDATIONS 

A person wanting to formally commend Muscatine Police Department personnel must contact a department supervisor either in person, via telephone, or in writing and report the particulars of the praise (reporting may be anonymous). All received commendations will be reviewed by supervisors of the Muscatine Police Department. Dispositions and awarding for actions noted will be determined by established policy/procedure. Per Calea Standard 45.2.3, any person may also utilize the Accreditation Public Comment Portal to provide commendations or concerns related to the Muscatine Police Department and its CALEA accredited status.
