The Primary mission of the Muscatine Fire Department is to provide on-going training, education and certification to fire service personnel necessary to insure a competent, efficient and effective emergency response organization.

Departmental training is taught by department officers, designated training instructors, fire fighters, and contracted instructors. Topics range from fire training to meet the minimum training standard, emergency medical services training to recertify paramedic certifications in Iowa and Illinois, officer training, numerous specialized training, and part-time ambulance attendant and recruit training.

The State Fire Service and Emergency Response Council recognizes the need to establish a minimum training standard that will provide a means to prevent occupational accidents, injuries, illnesses, and deaths. The intent of this Minimum Training Standard is not to restrict any fire department from exceeding this standard. The Minimum Training Standard, as adopted in the Iowa Administrative Code (Section 661, Chapter 251) (PDF).
